UK Seahorses
About UK Seahorses
A series of high value UK stamps featuring Britannia standing in a chariot drawn by three seahorses. Designed by Nelson Dawson and engraved by J.A.C. Harrison. The 2 shilling 6 pence, 5 shilling, 10 shilling, and 1 pound values featured this magnificent design. The Seahorses were used for parcel post and foreign mail. Overprinted varieties exist for use in British post offices overseas. The Seahorse design is considered one of the finest examples of British stamp engraving.
