About Two Penny Blue
Issued alongside the Penny Black in May 1840. The twopence blue was for heavier letters. Only about 500,000 were printed compared to 68 million Penny Blacks. Early impressions had no white lines around the vignette. Later issues added white lines for a cleaner appearance. Unused Two Penny Blues are worth thousands of dollars. The stamp is far rarer than the Penny Black in any condition.
