The 1 pound stamp issued for the 1929 Postal Union Congress in London. Featured a profile of Saint George slaying the dragon by Nelson Dawson. One of the most beautiful British stamps ever produced. Only 61,396 were sold. Unused examples with original gum are worth over 5,000 dollars. The PUC pound was engraved on a single plate of 120 subjects. The design set a new standard for artistic excellence in British stamp production.
