US Franklin Z-Grill
About US Franklin Z-Grill
A 1 cent Benjamin Franklin stamp with a rare Z pattern grill. The grill was an experimental embossing pattern meant to prevent reuse by allowing cancellation ink to soak into the stamp. Only two Z Grill stamps are known to exist. One is owned by the New York Public Library. The other traded hands in 2005 when investor Bill Gross swapped a block of 4 Inverted Jennies worth 3 million dollars for it. The Z Grill is considered the rarest US stamp.
