US Trans-Mississippi
About US Trans-Mississippi
A set of 9 commemorative stamps marking the 1898 Trans-Mississippi Exposition in Omaha. Featured scenes of western expansion including hunting, farming, and the Pony Express. The 1 dollar Western Cattle in Storm is widely considered the most beautiful US stamp ever issued. Originally intended as bicolor, the Spanish American War prevented the second color. The Trans-Mississippi issue is a highlight of classic US philately. Unused sets are worth thousands of dollars.
