About Mauritius Blue Penny

Among the rarest and most valuable stamps in the world. Only 500 were printed, with 12 known survivors. The postmaster mistakenly engraved Post Office instead of Post Paid. Lady Gomm, the governors wife, used many on invitations to a ball. The error was discovered afterward. Unused copies are worth millions. A single Mauritius Blue Penny sold for over 4 million dollars in 2011. The Red Penny companion is equally rare.
