Canadian Bluenose
About Canadian Bluenose
A 50 cent stamp featuring the schooner Bluenose, a legendary Canadian fishing and racing vessel. The design by Herman Herbert Schwartz was engraved by the American Bank Note Company. The Bluenose stamp is considered one of the most beautiful stamps ever issued. The schooner won every major racing championship for over 20 years. The stamp increased demand for the Bluenose image. The schooner appears on the Canadian dime as well, cementing its place as a national icon.
