About US Lunar Landing
A 10 cent airmail stamp commemorating the Apollo 11 moon landing. Featured an astronaut stepping onto the lunar surface. The stamp was designed by Paul Calle based on his sketches of the astronaut training. The stamp was issued on September 9, 1969, less than two months after the July 20 landing. Over 150 million were printed. The rapid production demonstrated the flexibility of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing.
