US Bureau Issues
About US Bureau Issues
The first stamps produced by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, taking over from private bank note companies. The Bureau brought stamp production in house starting in 1894. The transition was not smooth, with quality issues in early printings. The Bureau introduced new watermarked paper in 1895. Bureau production dramatically increased stamp output, meeting growing demand. The Bureau has produced all US stamps since 1894, establishing a tradition of government stamp production.
