US Black Heritage Series
About US Black Heritage Series
A series honoring African Americans and their contributions to American history. Began in 1978 with a 13 cent Harriet Tubman stamp. The series continues annually, featuring figures including Frederick Douglass, Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, and Barack Obama. The Black Heritage series was proposed by Jesup Blair and became one of the most popular US stamp series. The stamps are collected both as a series and individually. The series has educated millions about African American contributions.
