US Bank Note Stamps
About US Bank Note Stamps
US stamps printed by the National, Continental, and American Bank Note Companies from 1870 to 1888. Featured portraits of presidents and statesmen in oval frames. The Bank Note issues include some of the rarest US stamps. The 24 cent Washington with grill is extremely rare. The Bank Note companies used special grilling machines to emboss stamps, preventing reuse. The 1 cent Z grill Franklin is the rarest US stamp with only 2 known copies.
