About US Americana Detail
The Americana series was innovative for using the USA insignia as the central design element rather than portraits. The series was designed by Bradbury Thompson, one of the most influential graphic designers of the 20th century. Thompson designed over 100 US stamps. The Americana series demonstrated how modernist design principles could be applied to postage stamps, breaking from the portrait tradition of earlier definitive series.
