US 1902 Series
About US 1902 Series
A definitive series featuring prominent Americans including Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, and Theodore Roosevelt. The 1902 series was the first regular US issue to feature decorative borders around portraits. The designs were criticized as overcomplicated. The 2 cent Washington shield stamp was the workhorse of the series. Theodore Roosevelt personally took interest in stamp design during his presidency. The 1902 series was replaced by the Washington Franklin series in 1908.
