About US 1890 Issue
The 1890 definitive series was the last small format regular issue before the Bureau of Engraving and Printing took over stamp production. Printed by the American Bank Note Company. Featured simplified portraits of Franklin, Washington, and others. The 1890 series was produced for only four years before the Columbian commemorative of 1893 transformed US stamp design. The series is collected as the end of the Bank Note era.
