About US 1869 Pictorial Issue

The first US stamps to feature pictorial designs rather than portraits. Included a ship, a locomotive, a post horse, and the Signing of the Declaration of Independence. The 15 cent Landing of Columbus was the first bicolor US stamp. The 24 cent value with an inverted frame is the rarest, with only about 46 known. The 1869 pictorials were unpopular when issued but are now considered pioneering artistic achievements in US stamp design.
