About UK Shakespeare Series
A set of stamps commemorating the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare birth. Featured portraits of Shakespeare and scenes from his plays. Designed by David Gentleman, who became one of the most influential UK stamp designers. The Shakespeare stamps established the template for artistically ambitious UK commemoratives. Gentleman later designed the classic 1969 Christmas stamps and many other influential UK issues.
