About Transvaal First Issue
The first stamps of the South African Republic (Transvaal). Featured the coat of arms of the republic. Printed in Germany. The Transvaal stamps were used until the British annexation in 1877. After the Second Boer War, Transvaal became a British colony. Transvaal stamps from the republican period are rare and collectible. The Paul Kruger issues of the 1890s are the most famous. These stamps represent the independent Boer republics before British control.
