Turkey Republic Issue
About Turkey Republic Issue
The first stamps of the Republic of Turkey, issued after the abolition of the Ottoman Sultanate in 1922 and the proclamation of the Republic in 1923. Ottoman stamps were overprinted with the new Turkish postal administration inscription. Turkey issued its own republican designs from 1924. Turkish stamps under Mustafa Kemal Ataturk featured modern, secular designs reflecting the new national identity. Stamps were tools for cultural reform, promoting the new alphabet and modernization.
