Turkey Ottoman Stamp
About Turkey Ottoman Stamp
The first stamps of the Ottoman Empire, issued in 1863 during the reign of Sultan Abdulaziz. Featured the Tughra, the calligraphic monogram of the sultan. Printed by the Ottoman government in Constantinople. Ottoman stamps are collected as the foundation of Turkish philately. The empire covered much of the Middle East, and Ottoman stamps were used from Bosnia to Yemen. The Tughra design remained on Ottoman stamps until the empire was dissolved after World War I.
