About Poland Solidarity

A stamp honoring the Solidarity trade union movement. The stamp was prepared but never officially issued because martial law was declared in December 1981. A few copies survived destruction. The Solidarity stamp became a symbol of the struggle against communist rule. After the fall of communism in 1989, Poland issued many stamps celebrating Solidarity and its leader Lech Walesa. The unreleased 1981 stamp is extremely rare and historically significant.
