Hawaiian Missionaries
About Hawaiian Missionaries
The first stamps of the Kingdom of Hawaii, known as the Missionary issue because they were primarily used by American missionaries. Printed in Honolulu on thin, fragile paper. The 2 cent value is the rarest, with only 15 known copies. The 5 cent and 13 cent values are also rare. The Dawson cover bearing a 2 cent and 5 cent Missionary is one of the most valuable philatelic items, worth over 2 million dollars. The rough design reflected the remote island setting.
