German inflation stamp
About German inflation stamp
Stamps issued during the Weimar hyperinflation of 1923. As prices doubled every days, stamp denominations escalated from thousands to billions of marks. The 50 billion mark stamp is the highest denomination stamp ever issued. The stamps were printed on newsprint with crude designs due to the rush to keep up with inflation. Children played with piles of worthless stamps. The inflation ended in November 1923 with the introduction of the rentenmark. German inflation stamps are collected as historical artifacts.
