About Chinese Dragon Stamp

The first stamps of China, featuring a dragon. The Large Dragon issue of 1878 was printed by the Chinese Maritime Customs. The dragon design symbolized the Qing Dynasty. Three denominations were issued: 1 candarin, 3 candarin, and 5 candarin. The Large Dragon stamps are among the most sought after in Chinese philately. Unused examples are extremely rare. The design set the precedent for Chinese stamps to feature national symbols and cultural motifs.
