Australia Stamp Week
About Australia Stamp Week
Australia issued its first commemorative stamps for the opening of Parliament House in Canberra in 1927. The 3d and 1 shilling values featured the new Parliament House. Stamp collecting was actively promoted in Australia through Stamp Week campaigns. The 1927 Canberra opening issue was the first major Australian commemorative. Australian stamps featured uniquely Australian themes including kangaroos, koalas, and Aboriginal art much earlier than most colonial stamp issuers.
